Next pandemic might be extra deadly than Covid - Oxford-Aztrazeneca Vaccine scientist

The next pandemic could be more deadly than the current Covid19 crisis, warned one of the scientists who developed the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine. 

Lady Sarah added that people should be careful until more is known about the Omicron variant, which warns that vaccines may be less effective against it. He said, "This won't be the last time one virus threatens our lives and livelihoods. The truth is, the next one could be worse.

 It could be more contagious, or more deadly, or both." We cannot go into a situation where we have been through everything we have been through and then find that the enormous economic losses we have suffered mean that there is still no means of preparing for a pandemic, " he added.

 Our progress and knowledge gained must not be lost. Regarding the Omicron variant, he said that its spike protein contained mutations that are known to increase the virus's transmissibility. "But there are additional changes that could mean that antibodies induced by vaccines or by infection with other variants may be less effective in preventing Omicron infection."
