According to various reports, the actor shot a cameraman in a tragic accident and injured a director with a prop gun. sacked on the New Mexico set of the movie 'Rust' ⁣ "There was an accident on the New Mexico set of 'Rust' that misfired a prop gun with headlights," a production spokesman told Deadline. 

Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and her director Joel Souza were beaten, according to the Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office, and Hutchins was flown to the hospital and died of their injuries. Regional Medical Center in Santa Fe, authorities said. "Detectives are investigating how and what type of projectile was fired," said a statement from the sheriff's office.

Sources told TMZ that the two workers were hit by a shrapnel or bullet.
